Parade History
Since the 1960s, the Zebulon Christmas Parade has lit up downtown Zebulon each holiday season, drawing crowds and holiday cheer. Join us this December as floats, school groups and businesses march through our Town of Friendly People. It’s a celebration for all ages!
Origins and Early Years
The Zebulon Christmas Parade began in the 1960s under the sponsorship of the Zebulon Chamber of Commerce. It quickly became a highlight of the holiday season for the town of Zebulon, North Carolina, drawing thousands of visitors to the downtown commercial district for festive entertainment and holiday shopping.
Decades of Tradition
Through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, the parade was held regularly for most years, forming a beloved annual tradition in Zebulon. Communities lined the streets, and local businesses, bands, floats and community groups all participated to mark the start of the holiday season.
Brief Interruption & Format Change
In recent years the parade experienced a lapse due to the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the traditional format was put on hold. In 2023, instead of the usual procession, the town held a “Deck the Hall-Z” event rather than a full traditional parade.
Key Figures & Legacy
One of the significant contributors to the parade’s history was Eva Jane Frady Liles, who served as Director of the Zebulon Chamber of Commerce from 1995 to 2005 and is best known for her coordination of the annual parade.
Her involvement helped sustain and shape the parade through a pivotal period of growth and community engagement.
Why It Matters
The Zebulon Christmas Parade has been more than just a festive event—it has been a symbol of community spirit, local business participation and holiday celebration. It provides a platform for local organizations, schools, and civic groups to come together, and for families and residents to mark the season in downtown Zebulon.
