About the "First in Freedom" Parade
Serving as North Carolina’s signature America 250 celebration, the parade will honor both the rich history of the state and the enduring spirit of the nation. The event will bring together communities from across North Carolina for a once-in-a-generation celebration of freedom, unity, heritage, and civic pride.
The First in Freedom Festival & Parade is North Carolina’s signature celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary, bringing together communities from across the state for a once-in-a-generation Independence Day celebration in the heart of Downtown Raleigh.
Held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, the parade begins at 9:30 AM and celebrates the history, people, and traditions that have shaped both North Carolina and the United States. As our nation commemorates 250 years of independence, the First in Freedom Festival & Parade honors the enduring spirit of freedom, unity, service, and civic pride.
The approximately 1.4-mile parade route through Downtown Raleigh will feature a dynamic lineup of patriotic floats, marching bands, military and veteran organizations, community groups, cultural organizations, youth organizations, performers, local leaders, and special guests. Spectators can also enjoy representations of North Carolina’s rich history and heritage, iconic cultural traditions, and inspiring tributes to the people and stories that define our state.
The celebration is designed to bring together participants from all 100 North Carolina counties, showcasing the diversity, history, and pride found in every corner of our state. From local nonprofits and schools to civic organizations and performers, the parade reflects the communities that make North Carolina unique.
The First in Freedom Festival & Parade is free and open to the public, welcoming families, visitors, and residents alike to experience one of the state’s most memorable Independence Day celebrations. With tens of thousands of spectators expected, Downtown Raleigh will come alive with patriotic spirit, music, entertainment, and community celebration.
