Purpose of the Board of Directors for Greater Raleigh Merchants Association (GRMA) d.b.a Shop Local Raleigh (SLR):

The Board of Directors for the Greater Raleigh Merchants Association (GRMA), operating as Shop Local Raleigh (SLR), exists to provide strategic leadership, governance, and oversight to advance the organization’s mission of supporting and promoting locally-owned, independent businesses throughout the Raleigh area.

Key purposes of the board include:

• Mission Stewardship: Supporting the mission of strengthening the local economy by encouraging the community to shop, eat, and do business locally.
  
  
• Strategic Planning: Guiding the long-term vision and setting organizational goals to support the growth and sustainability of local businesses.
  
  
• Financial Oversight: Providing fiduciary responsibility, approving budgets, and ensuring the organization’s financial health.
  
  
• Advocacy & Representation: Acting as ambassadors for Shop Local Raleigh, fostering relationships with members, the broader business community, and local government to represent the interests of locally owned, independent businesses.
  
  
• Support & Resources: Assisting with programs, events, and initiatives that provide education, networking, and marketing opportunities for members.
  
  
• Fundraising: Assist in securing  sponsorship support for the organization’s events and initiatives.

Ultimately, the board works collaboratively to ensure that Shop Local Raleigh continues to be a strong, sustainable resource and advocate for the independent business community in Raleigh and Wake County.
