RALEIGH, N.C. (June 16, 2010) – Shop Local Raleigh (SLR), the independent business alliance formed in early 2009, has hired Jennifer Bradshaw as the organization’s new executive director. Bradshaw will work to promote SLR’s nearly 200 business members and raise public awareness about the benefits of buying local.

Bradshaw joins SLR after serving as the executive director for the Central Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. She also has nonprofit experience from her previous position with the Greater St. Louis Area Council Boy Scouts of America.

“Our organization is all about promoting and supporting locally-owned, independent businesses,” said Steve McLaurin, president of Greater Raleigh Merchants Association (GRMA), the organization that launched Shop Local Raleigh. “Jennifer brings new knowledge and energy, as well as a forward-thinking attitude to the director role. We are enthusiastic about further growth and awareness of our buy local movement.”

In addition to her executive director role with Shop Local Raleigh, Bradshaw will also serve as executive director of GRMA, with direction from the organization’s 16-member board of directors.

The Greater Raleigh Merchants Association has promoted the growth and sustainability of local businesses for almost 70 years. It produces the Raleigh Christmas Parade, and in 2009 the organization launched Shop Local Raleigh, an affiliate of the American Independent Business Alliance.
